If you dont want to mess around changing the default JVM settings or setting setenv manually on your Mac and you only want to configure all these settings through Applications -> Utilities- > Java -> Java Preferences app, you can change the default jdk of netbeans and make it use the Java6 that was recently introduced with a more flexible way.

So let's see..ti'sreally easy!

1. Go to path where you have installed Netbeans.app , usually its in Applications-> Netbeans ->

2.Right click on Netbeans 6.1 .app and select ' Show Package Contents'

3.In the finder window that appears, browse through
Contents/ Resources/ Netbeans / etc / netbeans.conf

4. Open netbeans.conf with a text editor and find the following line

# Default location of JDK, can be overridden by using --jdkhome:

netbeans_jdkhome=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5/Home

change this to the following

netbeans_jdkhome=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home

You are done!Enjoy Netbeans 6.1 with Java 6 (64bit).
